Day (11-1) defeated Northeast Guilford 60-51 to advance to the finals of the 2006 Little Four Invitational where powerful Greensboro (NC) Dudley will be the opponent. Dudley (8-1) advanced after routing Southwest Guilford 80-49.
Thomas scored 24 points to lead Day, as he had his way in the post with Northeast defenders. However, Dudley will present a different challenge. The Panthers have a solid point guard in Josh Chavis, and 6-foot-8 center Kenny Belton, a Cincinnati signee, is a load in the paint.
The championship game will be played tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum. The two teams last met last year in the Little 4 Invitational as Dudley featured Belton and UNC signee William Graves. Day left with the upset victory, defeating Dudley 70-54.
On the season Thomas is now averaging 20 points and nine rebounds. The 6-foot-5 wing was NC State's first commitment in the 2007 class.
