Alpharetta, Ga. - Last night's highly publicized (6-AAAAA) matchup between No. 7 ranked Milton and No. 3 ranked Wheeler was everything we expected it to be. The Eagles gave the Wildcats all they could handle, but some critical mistakes down the stretch led to a 64-56 loss.
"They've got a very good team," said Wheeler Head Coach Doug Lipscomb. "They play well together. We were fortunate to get out of here with a win tonight. I'm very proud of the way our team played and I hope we can continue to make progress."

J.J. Hickson had 31 points and 7 rebounds to lead Wheeler to a 64-56 win over Milton Saturday night. The 6-9, 220-pound North Carolina State signee proved to be more than just a post player by knocking down back-to-back three pointers to start the game.
"I think he had 31 points or something like that," said Milton Head Coach Dave Burnett. "I don't know how many blocks or rebounds, but he had a huge night. We really didn't have the answer for him. We tried to give Conner some help. Conner is giving up about three inches and 20-40 pounds. He did a good job, but we've got to do a better job from a team perspective next time."
Wheeler improves to (12-3, 4-0) on the season while Milton drops to (11-2, 4-0). However, despite the loss, the Eagles proved that they could play with the top ranked teams in the state.
"Yea, I think our kids think that we can play with them," said Coach Burnett. "We believed we could coming in here. I think maybe more so now since we played them such a tough game."
"We felt like we gave a great effort tonight. We really had a chance to win the basketball game. We had a couple of crucial turnovers there in the fourth quarter. You can't do that against a team them. They've got some great players on that team and it only makes it tougher."

Furman commit, Conner Nolte continued to impress on Saturday, pouring in 32 points and 9 rebounds. He made his presence known as one of the Peach State's most dangerous outside shooters.
"Conner is a fantastic player," said Coach Lipscomb. "He's been a fantastic player for them all four years. He's going to deffinetly blossom on the next level. I can't way to see him play on the next level. I think he's the heart and soul of Milton. He's a very polite young man and well mannered. That's a sign of his parents doing a very good job with him as well."
