Richmond (VA) Collegiate High School
Prospect Ranking: Wilson is rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com and the No. 67 quarterback prospect in the country.
Accomplishments: The talented signal-caller led Richmond (VA) Collegiate to a 38-16 victory over Fork Union for their fourth straight VISFA Division I championship. For the season, Wilson passed for 2,993 yards and 33 touchdowns, and he was again named all-state, all-conference, and conference Player of the Year. He is a two-time all-state selection.
Academics: Wilson projects as an academic qualifier.
The Recruiting Scene: Wilson burst on the scene this spring at the Louisville Scout.com combine where he impressed all onlookers, including Scout.com traveling coach Tim Glanton, with his abilities. Measuring in at 5-11.5 and 185-pounds, Wilson ripped off a 4.69 40-yard dash and displayed great footwork and one of the strongest arms of all the quarterbacks in attendance.
"That kid from Virginia can play the game," Glanton said of Wilson. "All, I can say is wow."
He camped at NC State and Duke and received offers from both before verbaling to NC State. Despite taking a late official visit to Duke, Wilson remained firm with his commitment.
Scouting Report: "I think North Carolina State is getting a real leader in Russell. That's the one thing that has always impressed me about Russell. He's always been a leader. He's the kind of kid that other players rally around and want to play with.
"Even as a junior he was elected as a captain for us, along with four seniors. Obviously he's got the skills, but he's just a great kid. If I had to start a program, that's what I'd like to start with, a leader at quarterbcak and that's his strength." -- Collegiate head coach Charlie McFall
