Prospect Ranking: No. 27 player in Virginia by SuperPrep magazine, four-star prospect according to Scout.com, Top 150 prospect nationally by analyst Bill Hodge, No. 28 wide receiver in the nation by ESPN
Accomplishments: Smith was named MVP at Scout.com combine held at Duke last year. As a junior and senior, totaled 36 receptions for 577 yards.
Academics: Smith's status is unknown at this time.
The Recruiting Scene: Early last spring, Smith's father told Pack Pride, "If you cover NC State, then you know where Smith is going to college." That sounded great at the time but Smith looked like anything but a done deal to State when schools like Virginia Tech, Miami, Tennessee and Notre Dame made serious runs at landing him. Smith came very close to committing to State after making an unofficial visit to State with father and family friend Amos Lawrence. However, he decided to hold off and the recruiting heat only intensified. Finally, in November of last year, Smith made the Pack his school of choice and has remained solid throughout the coaching change.
Scouting Report: "Smith has all the tools to be a very good receiver at the next level, he has the frame, strength, speed, route running, hands, and blocking skills that every coach yearns for. He has a knack for making the tough catch, if it's thrown in his area he is getting it. Smith is also very good in the open field at making defenders miss and getting yards after the catch." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Bob Lichtenfels
