Quintero Frierson's list grows

TSW interviews one of the top LBs in South Florida.

Quintero Frierson (pronounced Fryer-son) is filling some rather big shoes vacated by former Coral Gable standout and current University of Miami linebacker Jon Vilma. He has done well enough that some (including some college recruiters) think he has emerged from the shadows and is one of the top linebackers in South Florida.

Frierson has yet to trim his list of potential suitors. As a matter of fact the list continues to grow. Florida, Alabama, NC State, Ohio State and Miami are all in heavy pursuit, while Kentucky, Rutgers and Auburn have standing offers on the table.

So who leads? Quintero told TSW that he is wide open at this point and has no visits planned. "I have not eliminated anyone yet. Right now I am concentrating on my season. We have our opener this Friday." Coral Gables did have a preseason game last Thursday against Miami Springs which they won 20-0. Frierson led the way on defense with 18 tackles.

As a sophomore, Frierson had 88 tackles and 6 sacks. He lead his team as a junior with 142 tackles and 4 sacks. He's been named the team's Defensive MVP in each of the last two years. Frierson was a third-team All-Dade pick as a junior. The Orlando Sentinel lists him as the 8th best linebacker in the state of Florida.

Frierson feels playing linebacker suits his abilities to a tee and he looks forward to playing LB on the next level. "My biggest strength is being able to read an offense and filling the holes quickly. Ray Lewis is my favorite all time player and I try to pattern my game after his." Ray is also a Florida product (Kathleen (Lakeland, FL) H.S. & University of Miami).

Quintero is a standout track star for Coral Gables where he competes in the shot put. He does have an interest in pursuing that as well on the collegiate level.
