Name: Curtis Underwood
Hometown: Lackawanna, New York
High School: Lackawanna High School
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: After rushing for 1,344 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior, Underwood followed that up with a fabulous senior season that helped lead Lackawanna to a state championship. On the year he tallied 2,114 yards and 21 touchdowns and was named the top player in western New York.
THE RECRUITING SCENE: Underwood flew under the recruiting radar, but the new NC State coaches knew all about him as they pursued him while at Boston College. After a stellar senior season, teams like Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Syracuse tried to get involved, but Underwood committed to NC State following an official visit.
COACH QUOTE: "Curtis is a great kid. He's a shade under 6-foot and weighs about 210 (pounds). If you watched his highlight film, he's a powerful runner on the inside but has the speed to break it outside. I can tell you that he's never been caught from behind and he's been a four year starter here.
"He's got great vision and just sees the field really well. He's also got great cutback ability." -- Lackawanna head coach Bruce Lakso
SCOUTING REPORT: "At 6-0, 215 pounds, Curtis Underwood is a load at running back. He has tremendous lower body strength and is nearly impossible to arm tackle. He runs extremely hard and squeezes every yard out of each run. Underwood doesn't use a lot of shake and bake but he is shifty and deceptively fast- often causing opposing defenders to take bad angles. He runs with good shoulder lean and keeps his feet moving, making him difficult to corral.
"Underwood appears to be more comfortable running outside the tackles but when he sees a hole in the middle he shows no hesitation and explodes through it quickly. With time, Underwood should become a major contributor on offense for the Wolfpack." -- Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams
