James Gist - The high-flying junior is averaging 12.8 points per game on the season, but he has really turned it during conference play. Gist is averaging 15 points and 7.3 rebounds in ACC play, leading the Terps in scoring and blocks (19).
LAST TIME OUT
Maryland jumped out to a 29-9 lead against Duke before capturing a 72-60
victory over the Blue Devils at Comcast Center Sunday (Feb. 11) afternoon.
Duke trimmed the lead to just six (58-52) mid-way through the second half,
but the Terps used a 10-2 run to push the lead back to 14 en route to the
win. Maryland enjoyed an advantage in the post, outscoring the Blue
Devils, 48-30, in the paint.
The Terps scored 13 second-chance points and
converted 17 Duke turnovers into 21 points.
Four Terrapins scored in double figures, including freshman Greivis
Vasquez who recorded a team-high 18 points. James Gist scored 16 for
the Terps, while Ekene Ibekwe added 13 points. D.J. Strawberry scored 10
points and hauled down five.
In addition to his 16 points, junior James Gist added a game-high 10
rebounds against Duke. It was his eighth career double-double and sixth of
the season. He is averaging 18.4 points and shooting 63 percent from the
floor in his last four games.
RPI STRENGTH The ACC is the only conference to have eight teams ranked in the Top 40
of the RPI.
