Name: Kamar Frost
Hometown: Maysville, North Carolina
High School: Jones Co. Senior High School
Position: Defensive End
NOTES: Trenton (NC) Jones defensive end Kamar Frost is looking to emerge this spring as he is currently flying under the recruiting radar.
Frost, who checks in at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, helped lead Jones, a member of the 1A Coastal Plains Conference, to a 9-5 record. Playing primarily defensive end, Frost tallied 74 tackles, 30 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, and four forced fumbles, and he totaled seven catches and a touchdown at tight end.
Gaston (NC) Northampton West, and NC State signee Desmond Roberts, defeated the Trojans 18-0 in the 1A playoffs.
While NC State is seriously interested in Frost, the staff hasn't extended a scholarship offer. They are waiting to review his transcripts before sending the offer, which would be his first.
"State hasn't given me a scholarship yet," he said. "They've got my film from when we played Topsail, and I had three sacks in that game. The recruiting coach, he called the head coach of the defense over there on Junior Day and talked to him about how good I was on film. They said they want to get in my transcripts first before they can offer me."
NC State and East Carolina are in hot pursuit of Frost, who says he is a fan of the Wolfpack and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
"I've liked State for some time now," he said. "When they started being real good, that's when I started to like them even more. West Virginia, I just like the way they play. I like to watch their quarterback and running back play."
BROWN QUOTE: "I just want to go to a school where I can get some playing time and they really talk about academics. Maybe I will get looked at by scouts at the NFL if I do good enough." -- Kamar Frost
COACH QUOTE: "Kamar is one of the best athletes and pass rushers that you will find around here. He's a very good player. We just now have to get his grades right because physically I think he is what college coaches look for." -- Jones Head Coach Greg Hampton
PACK PRIDE SCOUTING REPORT: "Defensive end Kamar Frost from Jones Senior High School is one of North Carolina's most promising defensive end prospects for the class of 2008.
"At 6-5, 225 pounds, Frost is dominant at times on the high school level. He has impressive explosion with his hand on the ground and pursues to the ball extremely well. Frost does a good job of shedding blockers and causing chaos in the opposition's backfield.
"He does have a tendency to play high and is extremely raw as far as pass rushing skills but athletically and physically, has a tremendous amount of upside.
"As he develops as a pass rusher, Frost could become a major in-state prospect. At this point in his career, is somewhat reminiscent of current Wolfpack defensive end Willie Young." -- Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams
