During practice, Hickson has been one of the most impressive players in attendance. He has arguably been the best post player on the East squad.

"Everybody out here is competitive," said Hickson. "This is the top 24 players in the country, and the top players have to be competitive."

Hickson will be the first McDonald's All-American to play at NC State under head coach Sidney Lowe. Wolfpack forward Brandon Costner participated in the 2005 McDonald's All-American game.

Hickson signed with NC State in November after seriously considering Tennessee, Georgetown, Kentucky, and Florida among others.

"They are expecting me to do big things," he said. "They are expecting me to come in and be very versatile. They are not looking for me to be one-dimensional... they want me play inside and out.

"I think I'm the big man that can run. They don't get a lot of transition points so I think I'm going to bring that to the team and get the point guard to get up and down and run."

Hickson, who stars for Marietta (GA) Wheeler High School, had a huge senior season. He averaged 25.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.

In the McDonald's All-American game, Hickson is expected to play center for the East team.
