"Fowler, who was hired in September 2000, had three years left on a deal signed in September 2005 that would have kept him with the Wolfpack through 2010. The university said Wednesday that his salary was $245,000 per year as of July 1, 2006, the start of the last fiscal year.

Fowler led the athletic department during a $120 million building campaign that set out to provide all 23 varsity sports with improved training and competition facilities. Those venues are either completed or in progress.

Fowler also made two prominent hires in the past year. He lured former Wolfpack player Sidney Lowe away from the NBA to take over the men's basketball program after Herb Sendek left for Arizona State last spring. Fowler then hired football coach Tom O'Brien away from Boston College to replace fired coach Chuck Amato in December."
