Avent Receives Contract Extension

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has announced that baseball coach Elliott Avent's contract has been extended through 2010.

Currently in his 11th season at NC State, Avent is the second-winningest coach in program history with more than 400 wins. He has guided the Wolfpack to NCAA Tournament berths in each of the last four seasons and seven times overall. Avent was ACC and national coach of the year in 2003 after leading NC State to an NCAA regional championship and the school's first-ever berth in the NCAA Super Regionals.

He has coached 10 All-Americans in 10 seasons at NC State, including three first-team All-Americans (of the five in the program's history). He has had 19 players earn first-team All-ACC and has sent more than 40 players to professional baseball.
