Hertford County High School in Ahoksie, NC has had a successful run of late at producing division one prospects. LaMarcus Bond (NC State), Tydreke Powell (UNC) and Danny Dembry (Wake Forest) were all Hertford standouts that went on to sign with in-state colleges. S Lamar Monger hopes to join them in the class of 2008.

At 6-0, 176 pounds, Monger recorded a 4.64-second 40-yard dash and 26.5-inch vertical jump this past weekend at the Shrine Bowl combine held at Greene Central High School. After recording five interceptions as a junior, the rising senior has seen interest in his talents pick up over the last several weeks.

"Right now I'm hearing from UNC, NC State, East Carolina, Virginia and Duke," said Monger.

Monger is keeping a close eye on all five of those programs. He had a chance to attend UNC's junior day earlier this year as well as a trip to NC State for the Pack's spring game.

"I saw a lot of good stuff there," he said. "The coaching staff there was great and the players were friendly. I liked it. It was a good atmosphere."

Another school Monger has serious interest in is East Carolina, and he's hoping to make a visit to Greenville in the near future.

"I believe it's a good program, I just haven't been down there to visit yet," he said. "I'm pretty sure I'll be down there to visit, though. I met coach Shank (ECU offensive coordinator Steve Shankweiler) and he's a very good coach."

Monger said he plans to camp at Duke, UNC and East Carolina over the summer. The schools recruiting him say they like Monger as a safety on the next level.
