The 6-3, 330-pound prospect from Nathan Bedford Forrest High School in Jacksonville, FL also has a verbal offer from Miami, as well as an offer in writing from FIU. What does the future hold for Jones?
"Just this week the coaches from Miami came by my school and I talked to them for a little bit," said Jones. "They seemed really interested and told me they want me to go to their camp this summer. They've told me they think they'll have a spot for me, but they probably just want to see what I can do there."
Jones does not plan on camping anywhere else this summer, which means a lot will hinge on his official visits. He has already visited Florida, Miami and Central Florida.
"I think the officials are going to be pretty big for me," he said. "I don't think I'm going to want to make my decision until after the season, so in the next few months I'll try to narrow things down and decide which schools I want to check out."
Jones has a massive frame and overpowering strength, but coaches have also been impressed at his athleticism.
"Other than my strength and explosiveness I'd say my footwork is what helps me out the most. I'm also pretty flexible. This next year I'm going to work on improving my speed. That's my biggest goal for my senior year."
NC State has been recruiting Jones for a while now, so he has a good feel for what Wolfpack football is all about. Does the Pack have a real shot with the Jacksonville lineman?
"I'm definitely interested in NC State," said Jones. "I've watched them some and I like how they play. Their new coach really likes to run the ball, which I like as a lineman. They have some good running backs too. I really like NC State a lot."
