Pack Baseball: Weekend Wrap-Up

Pack Pride writer Austin Johnson takes a look at NC State's performance this weekend on the diamond.

Friday: NC State 12 (30-16), Campbell 4 (10-37)

Play of the game: The Wolfpack put up six runs in the third inning to take an 8-0 advantage, putting away the visiting Camels early on Friday night. Dallas Poulk capped off the scoring with a two-run single to left field.

Top Performers:
Mike Roskopf -
3-5, Double, Home Run, 2 Runs, 3 RBIs
The big left singled home a run in the first inning, doubled home a run in the third inning, then capped off his day with a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning. Roskopf leads all Wolfpack players with 10 homers on the season.

Dallas Poulk - 3-5, 1 Run, 2 RBIs
Since working his way into the line-up, Poulk has been an offensive spark for the Wolfpack. Friday was no different, as the freshman had two hits in the Pack's eight-run third inning. Poulk also added a one-out single in the fifth inning.

Notables: Sam Brown picked up the win, going five innings and giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two. Clayton Shunick and Joey Cutler added four innings of relief work in the victory. Ryan Pond picked up three hits including his sixth home run of the season, while Caleb Mangum added to hits for the Pack.

Saturday: NC State 7 (31-16), Campbell 3 (10-38)

Play of the game: With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Ramon Corona laced a single into left field to score Matt Payne and Pat Ferguson. The single gave the Wolfpack an early 4-0, giving the pitching staff all the support they'd need on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers:
Marcus Jones -
4-4, Home Run, 1 Run, 2 RBIs
Jones made it a 6-0 game in the sixth inning with a solo shot to straight-away center. The Wolfpack center fielder picked up his second RBI with a ringing double to left center, scoring pinch-runner Wade Moore from first base.

Ramon Corona - 3-4, 1 Run, 2 RBIs
Corona doubled and scored in the first inning, then added a two-run single in the second inning. The shortstop also singled to left in the seventh before being removed for a pinch-hitter.

Notables: Nate Karns (3-2) picked up the win with four shutout innings, holding the Camels hitless and walking three. Campbell didn't pick up its first hit until the seventh inning, as six Wolfpack pitchers held the Camels to three hits.
