NC State struck paydirt at Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC when they inked WR Steven Howard. That program boasts two more division one prospects for the class of 2008 in LB Jared Seate and OL Andrew Wallace.
An all-conference performer after his junior season, Wallace has quietly accumulated four solid scholarship offers so far this year. Miami, Illinois, Maryland and Buffalo have all offered to date and Wallace admitted that the Hurricane's pledge caught him by surprise.
"That was a big time offer," said Wallace. "I was totally shocked. They came by the school and left the offer there. I had a chance to talk to coach Barrow later so I was pretty excited."
After a solid showing at the Scout.com combine held in Charlotte over the weekend, Wallace may only be scratching the surface in regards to scholarship offers.
Measuring in at 6-5, 260 pounds, Wallace ran an impressive 4.76-second 40-yard dash, had a 25-inch vertical jump and 4.79-second short shuttle.
Although they've yet to offer, NC State continues to be a player for Wallace. He grew up a fan of the Pack but said the fact State hasn't offered yet has dropped them behind the schools that have.
"I've always been a fan of State," he said. "My dad was always a big State fan. I had a chance to go up to a game last year with Steven Howard. They send me a lot of mail and text me. Coach Bridge is the guy recruiting me.
"I was always a State fan growing up but I've been wondering why they haven't offered. They're still up there but probably not as high as the ones that have offered."
The Pack will get a chance to check out the rising senior up close and personal as he plans to camp at NC State this summer. He'll also make stops at Wake Forest and Tennessee.
