Bailes visits NC State

Jonathan Bailes took a trip out of Tampa this past weekend for an unofficial visit. The trip to Raleigh is a long one, and lucky for NC State, his mom works for Continental, enabling them to get some real deals on air-fare. According to the 315 pound Defensive End, the trip was well worth it! TSW caught up with the Tampa player to get the details of the visit.

The last time TSW talked to Jonathan Bailes, NC State held a slight lead over Miami and Florida State. Three weeks later NC State has put distance between themselves and the contenders. "NC State leads big now. I like them a lot. I had a great time in Raleigh."

The trip was full of eats, speeches, players, coaches and victories. Jonathan enjoyed them all. "We ate chicken Parmesan and then Coach Amato spoke to the players. He was great. He is not so hard nose that he can't be funny and I like that. He said a lot of funny things and I enjoyed listening to him talk about the program."

Bailes also spoke high of his recruiter, Coach Chris Demarest (Defensive Backs). "He's a nice guy. Coach told me that they wanted half their players to be from the state of Florida before it was all over with. "

Jonathan was amongst Tampa friends when he was on his visit. "I know Oliver Hoyte and Brian Clark. They told me I should have a chance to contribute when I'm a Freshman. There are a couple of defensive lineman graduating and that is going to open up some playing time. They both had some real good things to say about the program."

While NC State currently leads in a big way, the official offer has not yet been extended. "I don't count anything until I get that Fed-X package in the mail. I have a good understanding with the coaches. They know I want to go there and they tell me they want me there. So right now, I don't have anything in writing, but I do have an understanding."

Perhaps the paperwork will be extended in January. Bailes has set up an official visit for the weekend of the tenth.

The top five has changed a bit from our last interview. NC State leads Miami, FSU, West Virginia. "I'm not sure about Louisville. I do want to visit GT (Georgia Tech) now. They need to be in that list."

Jefferson Senior High is currently at 1-1 for the season. After winning their opener against Sickles 26-13, JSH was shut-out this past weekend by cross town rival Armwood High School 24-0. Bailes was not happy by the upset. "Our offense struggled and our defense missed some assignments. They (Armwood) played hard and we made mistakes."

Bailes continues to maintain that he will not announce his choice till signing day. "I am going to take it to the limit!"
