Notes: Scotland County star linebacker Terrell Manning committed to NC State today during a press conference at his high school.

A consensus top-2 player in the state of North Carolina, Manning is rated the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina by Scout.com. The network has also tabbed Manning a four-star prospect, the nation's No. 6 weakside linebacker prospect, and the No. 85 player overall in the class of 2008.

Manning made his mark last year as a junior at Scotland County, as he tallied 130 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries to earn all-conference and all-region honors.

"He's got great speed,
and he's very, very athletic."
Manning received offers from NC State, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida among others, but he narrowed his list to the Wolfpack, Tigers and Volunteers this past month after attending camps at all three schools.

Today he announced that he will be a member of the NC State Wolfpack.

Manning-on-Manning: "I'm a lot quicker than my 40 time (reports a 4.6). I'm a side-to-side runner and try to be aggressive most of the time. I'm also really physical.

"I still want to improve my tackling technique and bulk up. I think by gaining weight I'd be able to be a bigger presence on the field."

Coach Quote: "Terrell's a really good football player. He's probably going to be the most highly recruited player that we've had at Scotland High School and we've had some really good football players here.

"He's relentless. He's got great speed and he's very, very athletic. He changes direction well. He defends all types of offenses well; in other words, he'll play well against the spread when he's involved with the coverage, he'll play well against the two-back, three-back teams that try to play power football." -- Scotland County Head Coach Mark Barnes

Scouting Report #1: "Several things jump out at you when watching Manning play. First, he is a very aggressive player. At times, Manning gets too aggressive and his fundamentals break down. When he does connect he is a big hitter. Second, Manning has a great burst to the ball. Once he recognizes and reacts he certainly gets to the ball in a hurry.

"Absolutely one of the top
linebackers in the country."

"As well as Manning plays when he has to chase things he is perhaps at his best when things come his way. He sheds blocks nicely and fills the hole very quickly. Overall, Manning has very nice upside at the WILL linebacker spot. His versatile, tough, fast and aggressive and plays the run well." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Jamie Newberg

Scouting Report #2: "Manning reminds me a lot of Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo coming out of high school with excellent makeup speed, good hands in traffic, and strong hands. He plays much bigger than his listed weight of 205 pounds, but seeing him in person it is about right.

"Manning is very productive and plays all three linebacker positions for one of the top teams in the state of North Carolina. Overall, a great athlete who is not too stiff and plays well in space. Tremendous burst to the ball, and sifts through gaps as well as anybody in this class.

"Does have a tendency to play tall and tackle with his arms rather than with technique.

"Absolutely one of the top linebackers in the country." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
