REPORT: Brackman, Yanks Reach Agreement

According to and various media reports, NC State junior pitcher Andrew Brackman and the New York Yankees reached a contract agreement just hours before the deadline. Brackman Signs With Yankees for $4.5 Million

"Almost as good as the major league contract he had just signed on the advice of agent Scott Boras. The major league contract guarantees Brackman $4.5 million, including a $3.3 million signing bonus. With incentives and escalator clauses, the contract could be worth as much as $13.8 million, Avent said.

"This has been a very difficult process for Andrew," said Avent, who got confirmation that Brackman had signed while attending an afternoon football practice. "We have been talking for the last five or six days and negotiations were going very well. At one point, they took a turn and Andrew was actually thinking about coming back to school. I talked to [basketball coach Sidney] Lowe about him playing basketball again. It was getting quite interesting for NC State.

"But the Yankees, being the class organization they are, invested a lot of money in Andrew. They obviously think he has an opportunity to be a very special person for the New York Yankees. They threw a lot of money his way today."
