Practice Report: Archer and Cash

Defensive coordinator Mike Archer and sophomore Alan-Michael Cash discuss this week's game against East Carolina.

Mike Archer

On the ECU running game
"This running back in my opinion is the best one we've played. I'd rate him up there with Spiller and Davis – and I've seen those guys first-hand twice."

"He does everything. He catches it – he's a home run threat. He can take it to the house running the ball, he can take it on a short intermediate pass. He does it in the return game – I've really been impressed."

On how the team is trying to force more turnovers
"You've got to talk about it. We drill it every day – we take a five minute turnover period every day. We work on stripping the ball, we work on picking the ball up, we work on catching the ball. The biggest thing early in the season was not catching the ball – we got our hands on a number of balls. Now we have not gotten our hands on balls in recent weeks, so we'll have to do a better job of getting in position to do that."

Alan-Michael Cash

On the focus of the defense this week
"Making more tackles – we've missed a lot of tackles this season and have given up the big play on defense. That's seemed to hurt us a lot this year so basically we are just going back to the fundamentals."

On the pressure put on the defense
"There's no extra pressure. Sometimes its hard for our offense to get it going but we just have to step up on defense even more. But there's no big pressure, we know we have to go out there and do our job."

On defending ECU
"You have to come out, first play of the game, and hit them in the mouth. Hopefully calm it all down."
