The team's star player is Holt Rains. At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Rains plays defensive end and tight end for the Eagles. An all-conference player in 2006, he totaled 110 tackles and 11 sacks during his junior year. This season he's not sure of his exact stats, but he feels that he has been very productive.
"It's going pretty good for me," said Rains. "Right now I have some sacks, but that's really all I know so far with my stats. I'm not sure about tackles for loss. I know I've got a bunch, but we really don't keep stats or anything. I've caught some balls at tight end too. We're 3-7 right now."
Rains received early interest this spring from programs such as Duke, NC State, Auburn, and Clemson, and teams continue to monitor his progress.
"I'm still getting looked at by a bunch of schools, but I don't have any offers or anything like that," he stated. "NC State, Duke, Michigan State, Elon, and App. State are the main ones. I've been to games up at NC State, Duke, and App. State so far."
He has attended several Wolfpack games. NC State defensive line coach coach Keith Willis is handling his recruitment. It appears the Wolfpack are in great shape.
"They want to get a bunch of film on me before they decide on offering," said Rains. "I think they are looking at me more as a defensive end. I like it there at State. I like it a lot. I like coach Willis too. He makes it easy for me because he's real down-to-earth.
"I'm just going to wait and see what all happens."
