Big Nick Becton, a 6-6, 290-pound offensive/defensive line recruit out of New Hanover High School (Wilmington, N.C.), has scheduled two of his allotted five official visits. The talented senior is not sure if he will make all five official visits, although that looks likely at this time. Which two schools will definitely receive officials?
"I've got Virginia Tech on December 8th and Alabama on January 11th," Becton said. "I'm still trying to figure out the other trips."
Clemson, East Carolina, N.C. State and South Carolina are among the other programs still involved with Becton, who is likely to select from the four for his remaining official visits. For now, he discussed why he set dates with Alabama and Virginia Tech.
"I really like the coaches and the programs," said Becton, who, as he has done throughout, did not name a favorite among the schools still in contention. "Plus, I haven't gotten to see as much of those schools as I have of some others."
Becton, an intriguing prospect who had never played high school football until his junior year, attended Virginia Tech's July 14th camp. That is when he picked up an offer from the Hokies. He enjoyed the experience then, but figures to get a much more thorough look at Tech in the coming months - besides the official visit, he is also scheduled to attend the Florida State game.
Before he really gets focused on the recruiting process, Becton will focus on the rest of his senior season. New Hanover is 6-4 and riding a 5-game winning streak heading into this Friday's home contest versus undefeated Hoggard. Through 10 games, Becton is happy with how the season has turned out.
"Everything has been going good for our team," Becton said. "We have a big game on Friday. Individually, I've been doing pretty good, too."
