Laurinburg (NC) Scotland County and NC State commitment Terrell Manning is doing a weekly diary for Pack Pride.com that will focus on his senior season. In Manning's latest entry he discusses his team's playoff win, NC State's victory over North Carolina, and much more!
Tuesday, November 13 -- 8:50 p.m.
Man I loved [NC] State's game on Saturday against [North] Carolina. We've got so many Carolina fans down here and a whole bunch of of them were thinking my boys were going to lose. When they pulled it out, I just started talking jump to everybody and I still haven't stopped.
I was confident that we would win that game. At the beginning, I really thought it was going to be a blowout, but then they returned the interception for a touchdown and were right back in it. Right then I knew it was going to be a game because all the momentum had swung to Carolina.
"We couldn't watch."
I remember at the game someone actually mentioned to me that the game was looking like our game against Richmond after Carolina ran back that second interception. I just didn't want to think about it. We had that game against Richmond, and we gave it away.
After State took the lead and Carolina started driving, I was so nervous. I didn't even get to see the last drive. Me and Earl [Wolff] just covered our eyes the whole time... we couldn't watch. On the final play, the 'D' came up with the big stop, and we pulled it out.
The fans were just crazy... it was so loud in there. People tried to say that State's atmosphere isn't like Virginia Tech's or Clemson's, but when you're team isn't doing too good who wants to cheer all loud? They proved that when things are going well their atmosphere is as good as anybody's.
After the game I had a chance to meet up with coach Bridge and it was the first time I got to meet his family. Then I talked with coach McCollum... man they were real excited, and you know I got beat up like usual.
We had a lot of recruits there and it was my first time to meet some of them. I sat with Earl... that's my man. We were taking pictures and a lot of people thought we were brothers.
"He's one of my two playmakers."
Also my man Dwayne Maddox was there, and it was the first time I got to talk with Mike Glennon. He's real cool. We took some pictures together, and he was towering over me... that's a tall boy. I felt like he was kind of superior because I know he was looking down at me, but that's okay. I'm going to have to chop him down a little bit next year at practice.
It was funny because I heard people saying we were the two doing the diaries. I'm a competitor so I want it known that I think mine are better than his. I look at it like it's a competition so I want that out there.
When we were leaving I actually got to talk with Willie Young and that was cool. He's one of my two playmakers... him and [Alan-Michael] Cash. I remember last time I said he was kind of small, but that's just on the field. He looks a lot smaller on the field... trust me he's bigger than I thought he was.
State has now won four games and they are definitely going in the right direction. I know I keep saying this but whether they won all their games or lost all of their games I wasn't changing my mind. I gave them a commitment and I'm going to keep my word for sure. I think the other colleges have realized that now because there really isn't anyone else recruiting me anymore... I guess they now know for sure where I'm going.
Next up for State is a big game against Wake Forest. It's still the same as I've been saying all along. That is another game where if they go out and play like they've been playing they can get the win.
"We played real good."
With my team, we won our first playoff game last Friday against East Mecklenburg, 26-12. It started out being kind of competitive, but we ended up pulling away and getting the win. Our first-string defense gave up just one touchdown so overall we played real good. As for me, I had a whole bunch of tackles, and I know I had a batted pass, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
We've got East Burke coming up this week. I know they have a pretty good team. I don't think they are as fast as us, but they win games. They have a fullback who looks real good. He's about 6'3 and 250 pounds.... he's a load. The other thing I know is it's going to be a long drive for us. I think it is up near App. State, so it's going to be a drive.
We just need to keep winning. We're in a tough bracket and if we win this one it won't get easy because we would have the winner between Independence and Butler. How they are playing in the second round I don't know, but that would be a huge game. I think the winner of that game would probably be the favorite to make it all the way. None of that matters for us though if we don't beat East Burke first.
