CB A.J. McCray has been on the NC State recruiting board for quite some time and he continues to draw interest from the Wolfpack coaches. He's been a key player all year for his Camden County (Kingsland, Ga) squad and helped propel them to a 12-1 record and a spot in the state semifinals this weekend.

With most schools projecting him at cornerback on the next level, McCray has been a do-it-all athlete for the Wildcats this year. He's rushed the ball 58 times for 304 yards (5.2 yards per carry average) and seven touchdowns. McCray has added 12 receptions for 185 yards.

On defense, McCray has tallied 24 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and three interceptions- including one that was returned 50 yards for a score. McCray also helps on special teams and has returned six kickoffs for 154 yards. He's returned 11 punts for 111 yards.

The Wolfpack remains McCray's lone scholarship offer and he still has State at the top of his favorite's list.

"NC State has shown me a lot of interest," said McCray. "I get handwritten letters from the all the time and coach McCollum calls me about every two weeks. He told me he wouldn't bother me too much during the state playoffs, though. They've talked to me about an official visit but I'll probably wait to do that later on after the season is over.

"State did offer me so they're still my top school but after them, it's still up for grabs."

In addition to NC State, McCray is also receiving attention from Georgia Southern, Youngstown State, Charleston Southern, Western Michigan and Georgia. In fact, a coach from Georgia was in attendance for McCray's last game versus Grayson High School.

For now, McCray is content to stay focused on this week's big game versus Lowndes and the chance to make it to the state finals. He doesn't have a timetable to make a college decision.

Coach Jeff Herron on McCray: "A.J. is probably the best all-round athlete on the team. Started last year at corner and running back. Could also play quarterback and receiver. Has great strength, speed and versatility. Was also one of the teams leading receivers as a junior and also returned punts and kickoffs. A.J. is also a very strong student and is in our advanced and honors curriculum. Plays basketball and runs track as well. He is a member of our prestigious Champions In Life Club."
