Web Run: What's going on with the Wolfpack?

Four wins, three losses, almost too many questions to ponder and answer. For N.C. State, that's the situation after a humiliating 23-point loss at Michigan State, followed by a 75-69 loss at East Carolina on Saturday that arguably was the program's worst in more than 20 years.

From the Brickyard: World's Greatest Dunker

"If N.C. State (4-3) keeps losing at this rate, the fans who drove Herb Sendek out of Raleigh will be begging him to come back. The Wolfpack has an embarrassment of riches in terms of frontcourt talent, but is getting consistent top-notch effort only from freshman center J.J. Hickson and senior wing Gavin Grant. Losses to New Orleans and East Carolina and an embarrassing lack of effort at Michigan State demonstrate that Sidney Lowe isn't getting the most out of his players." - Charlotte Observer's Ken Tysiac

"Man oh man, have things turned terrible at N.C. State. Brandon Costner and Ben McCauley are having subpar seasons and the Wolfpack are now 4-3 following Saturday's 75-69 loss to East Carolina. How bad was this loss? Consider that East Carolina entered having played 57 games in history against ACC opponents while losing ... (you won't believe this) ... all 57. So obviously, Sidney Lowe's preseason Top 25 team is falling apart, and the poor guy must feel like he's coaching the Timberwolves and Grizzlies all over again. Lowe's career NBA record was 79-228. But it's one thing to lose to the Spurs, Jazz and Mavericks, and quite another to lose to the Pirates." - CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish

Four wins, three losses, almost too many questions to ponder and answer. For N.C. State, that's the situation after a humiliating 23-point loss at Michigan State, followed by a 75-69 loss at East Carolina on Saturday that arguably was the program's worst in more than 20 years. Wolfpack fans can quibble over it -- and many have the last few days, judging by the message-board meltdowns -- but one probably must go back to the Pack's 67-62 loss at Tampa (a Division II school) in December 1986 to find a more sobering defeat. As if Sidney Lowe didn't have enough on his plate right now. Not only is the N.C. State head coach desperately trying to breathe life into his current team, a disjointed and underachieving bunch whose latest setback came in the form of a 75-69 loss at East Carolina over the weekend, but now Lowe also may be facing issues with the 2009-10 version of the Wolfpack.
