Shrine Focus: Lee Butler

ROEBUCK, S.C. -- Another player looking to earn more offers at this year's Shrine Bowl is South Carolina defensive back Lee Butler.

With Ted Roof out at Duke, Anderson (SC) Westside defensive back Lee Butler is still interested in the Blue Devils but is willing to entertain other suitors.

"Right now I'm just trying to wait and see who their new coach is going to be," said Butler. "I'm going to go from there.

"The only other big offer I have is Vanderbilt. North Carolina State, Louisville, and Maryland are recruiting me pretty hard though. They are kind of waiting. They want to see how I play in this game down here."

Butler stated that an NC State coach visited him last week and he's interested in the Wolfpack.

"NC State came by the school a week ago and talked to me," he said. "They are a good team on the rise. They are a team that can beat anybody when they are on their game. They haven't offered me yet though."

Playing for South Carolina, Butler has turned some heads at safety. He admits that he is still a work-in-progress but feels that he is coming along.

"I've been doing pretty well," said Butler. "They've got me playing safety. I mostly played quarterback in high school, but I'm doing good down here. I'm ready for the game.

"Most of the schools are looking at me as a corner, but they are kind of looking at me as a kick returner and a punt returner too."

Does Butler have a leader?

"I don't really have a favorite right now," he said. "I want to see what happens. I want to go to a school where I'm going to get a good education, but I want to also win some ballgames. That is my goal."
