Jones Still Taking Visits?

Reports are circulating that Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military Academy offensive lineman Sam Jones will visit East Carolina this weekend. Pack Pride caught up with the NC State commitment for the latest.

Reports surfaced earlier in the week that four-star offensive lineman Sam Jones will be visiting East Carolina this weekend. Jones, who verbaled to NC State in December, informed Pack Pride that he will not be taking anymore visits.

"I'm done with visits," said Jones. "That was really a misunderstanding. I'm not going to visit anywhere. There was a little confusion with my academics, but I talked with coach Petercuskie yesterday and everything has been cleared up.

"Basically, there was some confusion with my maths, but I have what is required. I thought about visiting ECU because I needed a backup plan in case something like that came up, but coach told me I didn't need to. The ECU coaches are suppose to come through here today so I'm going to let them know that I won't be visiting."

Jones stated that he was concerned because his mindset had been firmly on enrolling at NC State. After speaking with coach Petercuskie, the Wolfpack's recruiting coordinator, he feels much about about the situation.

"This all happened really soon," said Jones. "It was a lot of relief because I'm not trying to go anywhere else, but if worse came to worse I might of had to."

Jones is finishing up his academics and following graduation from Hargrave he should be set to enroll at NC State.

"Everything is going great," he said. "I'm working on my courses and getting ready for college. I already have the foreign languages and I'm taking some college prep courses here at Hargrave. After I graduate, I should be good to go with everything."

Rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com, Jones committed to NC State over offers from Florida State, Kent State, Akron, Marshall, UTEP, and East Carolina among others. He verbaled to the Wolfpack during an official visit in December.

He originally verbaled to the previous staff last season but failed to qualify and had to enroll at Hargrave.

Jones, who played left guard for Hargrave's post-grad team, projects as an offensive lineman for the Wolfpack.

"I'm going to be on the offensive line, but I'm not sure if it will be guard or tackle," he said. "Coach Horton said I can play tackle or guard, maybe even both. I'll play whenever... it just depends on where they need me."

He reiterated his stance on visits when asked about Hargrave's Signing Day press conference.

"I'm done with visits," he said. " I'm going to sign with the Pack here on Signing Day."
