Leggett to Walk on at NC State

Cerro Gordo (NC) West Columbus tailback Travis Leggett grew up an NC State fan and he's looking forward to continuing his career in the red and white.

Cerro Gordo (NC) West Columbus standout RB Travis Leggett may not have received any major division one scholarship offers as a senior but it won't prevent him from continuing his college football career. Always a huge fan of NC State, Leggett plans to walk on with the Wolfpack next fall.

At 5-11, 200 pounds with 4.67-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Leggett finished off his senior season by becoming the first player in Columbus County history to be named to the all-county team four consecutive times. As a junior, he tallied 1,320 yards and 13 touchdowns.

That production was enough to earn Leggett an opportunity to walk on at NC State.

"I'm definitely walking on at NC State," said Leggett. "I've talked with the coaches about it and they've told me to make sure I do what I need to do in the classroom.

"I was supposed to enroll at State on Jan 8th but I had a problem with my high school so I'll be coming in August instead. The coaches said to just stay in touch and let them know how I'm doing."

Leggett added that playing for NC State gives him the chance to fulfill a dream of one day suiting up for the Wolfpack.

"I've always wanted to go to NC State," said Leggett. "It came to a point where I needed to make a decision and I just felt like I fit in there. I plan to major in either graphics and design or computer engineering."
