Prospect Ranking:
Rated a three-star prospect and the No. 17 middle linebacker in the nation by Scout.com, Bill Hodge Super Prospect, No. 36 ILB in the nation by ESPN

Accomplishments: Maddox had a huge senior season for Crest, totaling 169 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks and 14 QB hurries. For his performance on the field he was selected to the Shrine Bowl, named AP all-state and Big South defensive player of the year.

Academics: Enrolled at NC State

The Recruiting Scene: NC State had a huge run of commitments in June of 2007 and Maddox was the one who got the ball rolling. In a ten day stretch beginning with Maddox, the Wolfpack would land six verbal commitments.

With offers on the table from UNC, Alabama, Clemson and South Carolina, it was NC State that connected with Maddox the most and that was thanks to a couple of important, early unofficial visits to Raleigh.

The Wolfpack coaching staff forged a great relationship with Maddox and his family early on and that solidified his decision to run with the Wolfpack.

Scouting Report: "Maddox plays in the middle and is at his best when things come to him. Maddox defeats blocks and goes and gets the ball. He fills the hole tremendously well and super quick in getting through the gap to get to the ball carrier. Maddox is a big hitter that plays until the whistle blows. He plays well laterally and will chase the play no matter where on the field. Maddox is big, physical and very aggressive."

Coach Quote: "What separates him is the speed deal – he can fly. He runs a 4.6 [40-yard dash time] every time you clock him. He's probably going to get even faster this year, because he's running track.

"He doesn't weigh as much as [former Crest prep All-Americans Shamar Finney and Brandon Spikes] right now -- probably when he graduates he'll weigh 230 -- but he still has somewhere between nine and ten solo [tackles] every game. He's a player." -- Crest head coach Roy Kirby
