Tifton (Ga.) Tift County High School offensive lineman Zach Allen has signed with NC State!

Tifton (Ga.) Tift County High School

Prospect ranking: Rated a three-star prospect and the No. 51 offensive guard in the nation by Scout.com; assigned a grade of 72 and ranked as the No. 86 offensive guard in the land by ESPN.com.

Accomplishments: Tabbed as an all-area, all-region and Class 5-A all-state selection as both a junior and senior; named the Offensive Lineman MVP at the Athens Nike camp; graded out at 90 percent during junior campaign; three year-starter; already boast a 365-pound bench press.

The Recruiting Scene: Boosted by notable efforts in some summer camps, Allen quickly rose near the top of the Wolfpack's wish list early in the summer evaluation process. NC State linebackers coach Andy McCollum has a strong background in the Peach State, and that paid off big (literally) for the Pack in the case of Allen. By the time the youngster—who doesn't turn 18 until August 31, 2008—committed to the Pack in late August, he had already landed offers from Troy, AUB, South Florida and Middle Tennessee State. He became the first offensive line commitment and the first Georgia native in State's Class of 2008.

Scouting Report #1: "The fact that Zack Allen doesn't have prototypical height for an offensive lineman is a given. However, when you get past that, he shows a ton of potential and it's apparent why NC State is so high on his future.

"Allen has tremendous natural strength, particularly in his lower body and that allows him to mash opposing defenders on the high school level. He sometimes plays too high which is common for most high school lineman but that is easily correctable once he gets to college.

"Allen's strong suit appears to be his ability to get out and block in space. He is very effective when used as a pulling guard. Allen moves extremely well and you forget at times that you're watching a 300+ pound player move around the field. Once Allen squares up and gets his hands on an opposing player, that defender is out of the play.

"In pass protection, Allen needs work on his technique and using his hands but with his quick feet and energy level, has all the tools the Wolfpack coaches need to turn into a standout lineman." -- Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams

Scouting Report #2: "Allen became very important to N.C. State after having a tremendous camp (here) in the spring and received an offer over the summer. With the commitment, Allen takes up a spot along the interior of the offensive line where there are just one or two spots available for the Wolfpack and it really shows just how much new head coach Tom O'Brien really likes Allen as a prospect." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
