Academics: Projects as a qualifier
The Recruiting Scene: Manning's connection to NC State was all about repetition. He visited State over and over during the two years prior to his commitment and that familiarity became a huge factor in his decision. Offers on the table from UNC, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Clemson gave Manning quite a bit to think about but they were all playing catch up with the Wolfpack from the beginning. Considered a quiet lean to State for weeks,
Manning nearly committed to NC State while at the Pack's camp held last summer. However, after conferring with Scotland County head coach Mark Barnes, Manning decided to take a step back and evaluate his options. The Wolfpack community agonized for nearly five weeks waiting for Manning to make his decision but in early August he announced his commitment to State at a press conference held at his school.
Scouting Report #1: "Several things jump out at you when watching Manning play. First, he is a very aggressive player. At times, Manning gets too aggressive and his fundamentals break down. When he does connect he is a big hitter. Second, Manning has a great burst to the ball. Once he recognizes and reacts he certainly gets to the ball in a hurry.
"Absolutely one of the top
linebackers in the country."
"As well as Manning plays when he has to chase things he is perhaps at his best when things come his way. He sheds blocks nicely and fills the hole very quickly. Overall, Manning has very nice upside at the WILL linebacker spot. His versatile, tough, fast and aggressive and plays the run well." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Jamie Newberg
Scouting Report #2: "(Manning has) excellent makeup speed, good hands in traffic, and strong hands. He plays much bigger than his listed weight of 205 pounds, but seeing him in person it is about right.
"Manning is very productive and plays all three linebacker positions for one of the top teams in the state of North Carolina. Overall, a great athlete who is not too stiff and plays well in space. Tremendous burst to the ball, and sifts through gaps as well as anybody. —Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
