Name: Gary Grant
Hometown: Miami, Florida
High School: Dr. Krop High School
Notes: Rated a two-star prospect and the No. 151 CB in the nation by Scout.com, Grant emerged as a senior at Dr. Krop High School.
A track standout, his speed translated over to the gridiron, and playing in talent-rich south Florida, Grant totaled 43 tackles and three interceptions during his senior campaign.
On the recruiting scene, UNC was a major player for Grant as they targeted teammates Etienne Sabino and Travis Howard.
While the Heels decided to look in another direction, NC State increased their recruiting interest and made an offer to Grant in late November. He committed to State the first weekend of December, but that commitment didn't stop a couple of schools from continuing their pursuit. UNC came back into the picture in January as did Miami. Both programs tried to convince Grant to make an official visit but he turned both schools down and solidified his commitment to the Pack in January while in Raleigh for his official visit.
Scouting Report: "You'll have to forgive Gary Grant for not having a lot of senior highlights. The fact is, teams simply didn't want to test the standout corner.
"However, from a talent standpoint, he brings all the attributes you're looking for in a future corner starting with his size. At 6-0, 190 pounds, Grant is larger than most high school corners. You also have to be impressed with Grant's hips. He does a great job of playing on a swivel and turning to run with the ball carrier. Time and again you watch Grant cover receivers like a blanket and it comes from a combination of his back pedal, change of direction, quickness and recovery speed.
"There's a reason Miami came hard after Grant and he certainly has the potential to be a good one for NC State down the road." -- Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams
