Name: Jheranie Boyd
Hometown: Gastonia, North Carolina
High School: Ashbrook High School
Position: Wide Receiver
Notes: Arguably the state's top rising senior wide receiver prospect, Boyd had a huge junior year for Ashbrook High School.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder totaled 47 receptions for 1,151 yards (24.5 YPC) and 11 touchdowns while earning first-team all-conference and all-area honors.
Sporting 4.45 speed and a 40+ inch vertical jump, Boyd has already garnered scholarship offers from NC State, Clemson, Alabama, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, and Maryland among others. He will likely be considered one of the state's top five prospects in the 2009 class.
He has attended Junior Days at Wake Forest, Clemson, and North Carolina and was in Raleigh this past weekend for an unofficial visit to NC State.
"When I went to State this weekend I really liked their new football center," said Boyd. "I didn't have time to view the campus so I want to get back up there and see that.
"I liked it up there. I also got to talk with their quarterback recruit, Mike Glennon. Man, he's real cool. I liked him. He texted me afterwards that he had fun and to get with him the next time I plan on going back. I might try to hang out with him one weekend."
"He's able to routinely pull
in tough receptions."
This summer Boyd intends on visiting Alabama, Mississippi State, Maryland, and Miami. He stated that he has no plans of making an early decision, electing to announce his commitment on Signing Day.
"I've seen a lot of people commit early and change their mind at the last minute," he said. "I think that just looks bad on TV. I want to find where I'm most comfortable and take all of my visits."
Here's your chance to catch the talented wideout in action!
Scouting Report: "Boyd boasts all the attributes needed as a wide receiver but what really jumps out is his focus and concentration. This becomes clear once you observe that the vast majority of his catches are made with him in the air and off his feet. Boyd is able to go up with defenders, maintain his focus and come down with the reception over and over again. This also accentuates his tremendous catching ability. He's able to routinely pull in tough receptions which highlights his reliable hands.
"Once the reception is made, Boyd isn't necessarily a shake-and-bake type player but he is effective at finding gaps and outrunning defenders once in the open field. He plays physical and isn't an easy tackle once corralled. On the high school level, Boyd's speed allows him to dominate slower defenders and rarely will anyone put a hand on him once he's behind a defense." - Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams
