'09 Premier Prospect: DE Jason Ankrah

Pack Pride continues it's look at some of NC State's top targets for the class of 2009. Today we profile defensive end Jason Ankrah.

DL Jason Ankrah

6-4, 240 pounds, 4.79-seconds in the 40-yard dash

Quince Orchard High School, Gaithersburg, Md

Junior Stats: Ankrah doubled at right guard and defensive end as a junior. On defense he tallied 19 tackles, one sack and four QB hurries. Ankrah was named all-conference for his play along the offensive line.

Potential Ranking: Ankrah has the potential to be rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com later this year

The early word: Ankrah boasts quite a bit of potential at defensive end and has seen interest in his ability take off over the last several weeks. As schools make the rounds at Quince Orchard over the next few weeks, it’s likely that he’ll pick up even more offers before all is said and done. Ankrah has been in the process of visiting several of the schools currently involved with him.

Scholarship offers: NC State, Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia

Top Schools: Ankrah is not naming any favorites at the current time

Timeline for a decision: It appears the earliest Ankrah might make a decision would be during the 2008 season. However, it is more likely that he’ll wait until later in the year.

NC State recruiting coach: NC State defensive line coach Keith Willis

NC State connections: Coach Willis jumped on Ankrah and teammate Travis Hakwins early in the process and really made an impression on Ankrah in particular. The fact that Willis is recruiting Ankrah and would also be his position coach is a plus. State came away as the leader for Ankrah after junior day but he has since backed off of that.

Behind the scenes: While NC State may have jumped out front early, it’s Maryland that may prove tough to beat. It has been mentioned several times that Ankrah’s dad prefers the Terrapins and that will be an obstacle for every team to overcome. As for State, it is imperative that they get him back on campus in the coming months.

Wolfpack Visits: Ankrah attended junior day in March. The Pack had not officially offered at that point but Ankrah verified with us this week that State has now made their offer official. It doesn’t appear that any future visits have been set with NC State.
