The Chiefs chose Morgan with the 19th pick in the third round, the No. 82 overall selection in the draft. Morgan was the third safety picked in the draft and the second from the Atlantic Coast Conference behind Miami's Kenny Phillips.
Morgan, who was a redshirt junior for the Wolfpack in 2007, is the first NC State player picked in the 2008 NFL Draft. Ironically, the Chiefs selected Tank Tyler with the same pick, No. 82 overall, in the 2007 NFL Draft. Tyler was also the first Pack player selected in that draft.
He had a huge junior season for the Wolfpack. An All-ACC selection, Morgan led the team in tackles (97) and tied for the lead in interceptions (3). He also totaled a team-high six pass breakups after splitting time at rover and free safety.
As a sophomore, he ranked fourth on the team in tackles, even though he started just one game (Virginia). He totaled 82 stops for the season, the highest mark among players returning for 2007. In for 482 snaps from scrimmage, he was also in on 202 special teams snaps - the third-highest tally on the team.
