'09 Premier Prospect: Clinton Simpkins

Pack Pride continues it's look at some of NC State's top prospects for the class of 2009. Today we profile defensive end Clinton Simpkins.

DE Clinton Simpkins

6-3, 215 pounds

Chancellor High School, Fredericksburg, Va

Junior Stats: As a junior, Simpkins tallied 113 tackles en route to all-district and all-area honors.

The early word: Simpkins hasn’t garnered a lot of recruiting coverage so far this spring but he is a player that State has heavy interest in. He is solid coming off the edge in his team’s 3-4 defense and runs extremely well. Simpkins is somewhat under-sized now but has the frame to play much bigger once he gets to college.

Scholarship offers: NC State, West Virginia

Top Schools: Simpkins isn’t listing any favorites although NC State appears to be a major player

Timeline for a decision: Simpkins says he would like to visit several schools before making a decision. With that in mind, it appears he will make a decision sometime later in the year.

Interesting side-note: 6-3, 215 pounds now, Simpkins wears a size 16 shoe so there’s a lot of potential for him to add more size.

NC State recruiting coach: NC State defensive line coach Keith Willis

NC State connections: The Wolfpack was the first school to offer Simpkins and it appears that was enough to really land NC State as one of the major players for his commitment. Coach Willis has done a very good job of recruiting Simpkins in the early going.

Behind the scenes: Although he hasn’t named any particular favorites, we feel NC State is very near the top, if not at the top behind the scenes. Simpkins seemed blown away by his first visit to NC State.

Wolfpack Visits: Simpkins attended NC State’s junior day held back in March. He will likely be back on campus over the summer.
