While UNC commit Jared McAdoo and sophomore offensive tackle Rob Crisp have attracted much of the early recruiting attention at Chapel Hill High School, linebacker Steven Moore has quietly earned interest of his own, particularly from NC State. The Wolfpack has hosted three major recruiting events so far this year for the class of 2009 and Moore has been in attendance for them all.
This past weekend Moore took a step forward towards landing his first scholarship offer when he put up a respectable performance at the Shrine Bowl combine held at Apex High School.
The rising senior measured in at a solid 5-11, 225 pounds and ran a 4.71-second 40-yard dash. Moore also recorded a 4.61-second shuttle, 28-inch vertical jump and 22 reps of 185 pounds on the bench press.
Those numbers come on top of a solid junior season for Moore. Playing somewhat out of position at defensive end, he managed 50 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and nine QB pressures en route to all-conference honors.
Most colleges project Moore at middle linebacker and to date he’s received interest from Elon, NC State, UNC and Hampton. However, it’s the Pack that has shown the heaviest interest and Moore has been impressed with what State has to offer.
“I love all the facilities at State and the coaches are real cool,” said Moore. “They came by the school on Friday to check in on me but they’ve let me know that they would probably be willing to give me an offer after I attend camp because they like to see all their kids in camp because they want to make sure you’re a good fit for their system.
“Besides that, I love the coaches there. I love coach Tom O’Brien and I really like coach Swepson. He’s the guy recruiting me for State. He’s pretty cool. State’s my top school right now.”
For Moore to land an offer from NC State he knows he’ll nee to impress the coaches in June. Raleigh will be one of three stops he plans to hit over the summer.
“We’re going to Clemson for a team camp and we’ve got one at Elon. Beyond that I’m just going to NC State for camp to try to get that offer.”Here's your chance to catch the Chapel Hill (NC) High star in action!
