Another Hillside Standout Getting Looks

Pack Pride talks with Hillside defensive end Nick Stone and has the latest on his recruiting including thoughts on NC State.

Nick Stone is a 6-2, 250 pound defensive lineman from Hillside High School that has attracted the attention of several major schools thus far in the recruiting process. Named to the ESPN 150 watch-list earlier this year, Stone tallied 25 tackles and two sacks as a junior and will be looking for more in 2008. Pack Pride recently talked with Stone in this Q&A and got the latest on his recruiting.

Pack Pride: Nick, we saw you at the Shrine Bowl combine recently but you didn’t participate. Were you injured?

“I had just started back working out. I had been doing a lot of speed training and just started working out heavy and was real sore just I just decided to wait until the Scout combine.”

Pack Pride: You did have a chance to participate in the Nike Camp at Chapel Hill. How did you feel you performed?

“I thought I did real good over at the Nike camp. They had me working out with the defensive line and I won all my one on one drills. I lost my first one and won the rest of them. I went up against the top defensive tackle in the state and beat him so I thought I did well. The Nixon kid from Fayetteville (Jack Britt OL Xavier Nixon), I thought he looked good.”

Pack Pride: As far as your recruiting goes, have you picked up any scholarship offers yet?

“I don’t have any offers but Wake Forest, NC State and Clemson seem like they’re close. I think a lot of schools want to see me in camp first before they offer.”

Pack Pride: You attended NC State’s junior day a while back. What are your thoughts on the Wolfpack?

“NC State has a great program. I like their football facilities. I just like their school period. I like the coaches and really, everything at State is wonderful. I felt like I was at home when I went. They treated me good and the players there are great. I just liked everything about it just like with Wake Forest.

Pack Pride: Tell us about your interest in Wake Forest.

“I just talked to one of their coaches last week. He told me about their camp and I’ll be going to that. It’s just a small private school and I love it there.”

Pack Pride: Do you think you’ll end up at defensive tackle in college?

“I’ve talked to several of my coaches. There’s a possibility I might play linebacker in college but most schools like me at defensive end but I’m a little undersized. I feel like I can play either, though.”

Pack Pride: Are you favoring any schools right now?

“I don’t have any top schools right now. I like them all. I’m really just trying to get an offer.”

Pack Pride: Where are you planning to camp this summer?

“UNC, Wake Forest, NC State and I’m looking to take trips to Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Georgia.”
