"Recruiting is going good," stated McDaniel. "I got my first offer a week before last from NC State, and then I've had more schools that are popping up. I spoke with Purdue last week, and they said I'll probably have an offer coming in a few weeks."
McDaniel informed Scout.com's Burke Hayes of his latest offers.
"I got offers today from East Carolina and UAB," McDaniel told Hayes. "I had a feeling ECU was close to offering because they visited the school two weeks ago and then again this past Monday... but UAB was totally unexpected. I never received any mail or anything, so I was real surprised."
As a junior, McDaniel recorded 55 tackles and seven sacks, and he has made a name for himself on the combine circuit. At the UA/Scout.Com SE Elite 150 Camp, McDaniel checked in at 6-foot-1.5 and 297 pounds and was timed at 5.0 in the 40-yard dash while posting a 4.66 pro shuttle and a 27-inch vertical jump.
On film, he has excellent body control, superior lateral movement and can change direction very well. Rated a four-star prospect and the No. 16 defensive tackle in the nation, McDaniel expects even more offers to come his way.
"I think I'm going to have a big summer," he stated. "I'm going to try and camp at Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Lousiville, and Georgia Tech. I'm not sure if I will camp at NC State, but I'm going to go there this summer for a visit."
Heading up McDaniel's recruitment for NC State is linebackers coach Andy McCollum. Was McDaniel surprised when the Wolfpack offered him?
"I wasn't getting much attention from them, but when they went on the road recruiting they came by my school," he stated. "That next week they offered. It was kind of surprising because I haven't even visited the school yet. That's going to be one of the first things I do this summer.
"I'm hoping to learn about them. From what my coaches have told me, it is a good school for me to really look at."
McDaniel has a few teams in mind, but didn't name a single leader. How his summer goes will determine when he gives a verbal commitment.
"I like Auburn and Alabama, and I like USF and Louisville," said McDaniel. "I also want to stick NC State up there. They gave me my first offer and that's big to me, but I just haven't talked with them much or been there so I can't say much about them.
"I probably won't decide until after the season. It all depends on how the summer goes with offers and stuff."
