Report: NC State on Johnson's List

Wesley Johnson surprised a lot of people in Iowa when he asked for a release to transfer from Iowa State. According to a local news report, Johnson has been granted a release and NC State is one of the schools he is considering.

Des Moines Register: Nine Schools Added to Johnson's List

"Johnson has asked Iowa State to release him to nine more schools, including 2008 NCAA runner-up Memphis, Georgetown, Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina.

"Steve Malchow, Iowa State's senior associate athletic director, said today the school has granted Johnson's request. Other new schools on the list are Georgia Tech, LSU, Louisville and North Carolina State.

"Last month, Iowa State released Johnson to Arkansas, Connecticut, Marquette, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia."

Johnson averaged 12.4 points per game last season.

A two-year starter at Iowa State, Wesley Johnson earned honorable mention freshman All-American honors after averaging 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds during his freshman campaign. During that season, he ranked second in the Big 12 in doubld-doubles (12), and led the Big 12 in offensive rebounding (3.16 orpg). He also led Iowa State in blocks and his 7.9 rebounds led the team and was good enough for third-best in the Big 12.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward battled injuries throughout his sophomore season, but still managed to be named honorable mention All-Big 12 after averaging 12.4 points per game. He was second on the team in 3-pointers made (47) and totaled a team-high seven 20-point games. His best play came over a four-game stretch where he scored 20+ points in each game.

Johnson enrolled at Iowa State without much media attention. He originally signed with Louisiana-Monroe out of high school but opted to attend prep school after a coaching change. He inked with Iowa State over Charlotte and San Diego State.
