As a sophomore, Johnson played in 21 games, starting six as he averaged 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds. Johnson mainly served as a backup point guard for the Wolfpack.
Johnson enrolled at NC State for the spring semester of 2007, after playing that previous fall at the University of Tennessee. He played the first four games of the season at Tennessee as a reserve guard, averaging 2.0 points in 11.3 minutes a game.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder played his high school ball at Snider High in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Starting since his freshman season, he averaged 15.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists a game as a senior. He was rated the No. 91 prospect overall in the Class of 2006 by Scout.com.
Johnson's future plans are unknown at this point, but it is believed that he will have three years to play two seasons. A rumored destination is Georgia State, where former Ole Miss head coach Rod Barnes will begin his second season as head coach this fall. Georgia State is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Johnson missed the spring semester of the 2006-2007 season and the first semester of the 2007-2008 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
