Three-star defensive tackle Eric McDaniel is preparing for the start of his senior season while also keeping one eye on the recruiting process. He spoke with PackPride.com on Wednesday, and said three schools are standing out above the rest.
The 6-2, 297 pound defensive lineman from Calhoun, Georgia is excited about what he and his teammates can accomplish this year, but he knows he also has to be concerned with his own future.
"We play our first game this Friday," McDaniel said. "I think it will be good. We did pretty good in practice and everything. I'm excited about it and expect it to go well.
"It hasn't quite hit me yet that it's my last year. I love football season and I'm definitely not ready for it to end yet."
McDaniel is starting to set up official visits, which will be pivotal in his decision-making process as the season progresses.
"I've been talking to Purdue and I really want to go up there for an official visit," he explained. "I've talked to Coach McCollum about setting up a visit to NC State, too. I really want to go there sometime soon. I'm positive I'll take those two. I'll probably go to Louisville, but I don't know about the other two open spots.
"Right now those three are about even. Once I visit I'm sure I'll be able to say I have a favorite. All three schools have been recruiting me right from the beginning. They were the first to offer. I like that none of them are too deep at my position, so I can go in there and compete.
"It would be a plus if the team does really good this season but that won't be all I'll look at."
