Current Louisville commit and Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor standout Mike Privott recently decided to explore some of his other options and NC State is a school he will be taking a look at. What does he think about the Pack and some of the other schools on his list?
The 6-0, 215 pound linebacker holds offers from Louisville, NC State, UNC, West Virginia, Maryland, UConn and Virginia.
While Privott still considers himself a soft commit to Louisville, NC State hopes his relationship with defensive line coach Keith Willis will pay off down the road.
"As a matter of fact I talked to Coach Willis the other day," Privott explained. "We talked for a little while and I also talked to coaches from West Virginia and North Carolina.
"Seriously, Coach Willis and I have a great relationship. I'm probably closer to him than any other coach recruiting me. He's like a father figure that tells me like it is. He won't always tell me what I want to hear, but he'll tell me what I need to hear. It's just great.
"When I first decided to look at other options he was the first coach I called and he was really excited."
This past Friday night Privott led his Lake Taylor squad to a 40-7 victory. He recorded 10 tackles and his team moved to 3-0 on the season. They are currently ranked No. 2 in their area.
"I played great," he said. "I led my team to victory and had all of my assignments down. I made sure my teammates had their assignments down too. I could have had more tackles, but I helped my teammates out and that's what matters."
Privott already has two visits set and will be setting more trips up in the near future.
"Actually I pushed my visit to Louisville back until October 16," he explained. "I'm trying to set one up to NC State and one to UNC. I think on September 27 I'm going to West Virginia.
"As of right now I would still say I'm a soft verbal. I haven't decommitted but I'm still weighing my options and looking at what else is out there.
"If I decide to de-commit, I'll probably wait until Signing Day to make my choice."
Growing up in Virginia, Privott was exposed to ACC football from an early age. That's one factor working in the favor of the Pack and Heels.
"Being from here, I grew up with ACC football and watched it since I was little. They really like the ACC down here. I've noticed that ACC teams really like to run the ball, and my specialty is stopping the run. In the Big East it seems like they like to pass more."
Privott is one of Louisville's top commits, so it's a sure bet that their staff will do everything in their power to keep Privott on board. What are they telling him?
"They're not pressuring me and they've told me to take my time," he said. "They know this is the biggest decision of my life and they understand that. They just want me to make the right decision. I'm their top recruit right now so they want me, but I'm just going to have to let them know what I'm going to do."
