Smith Plans to Visit NC State Again

Pack Pride has the latest on Dublin (GA) athlete Rashard Smith and his plans for an upcoming trip to NC State.

Dublin, Georgia athlete Rashard Smith has been to NC State quite a few times over the past year. In fact, it's almost as though Raleigh is becoming a home away from home for the 5-10, 175 pound talented prospect.

With offers from NC State, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and a host of smaller programs, Smith has plenty of options.

He helped Dublin to a 13-3 win in their first game of the year, and he hopes that game set the tone for more success during his senior season.

"I felt like I played pretty good in that game," Smith explained. "The defense stepped up well. I played on both sides at quarterback and safety. On offense I had 139 passing yards and 129 rushing yards, so it was good.

"Other than that I've been talking to coaches from NC State, East Carolina, Purdue, Georgia Southern, Middle (Tennessee) and Vanderbilt. That's about it, at least recently."

Oftentimes schools assign one particular coach to a prospect and ask him to keep in touch throughout the recruiting process. Not so with NC State and Smith. The entire Wolfpack staff has been in touch with the talented youngster -- evidence that he's a high priority for this recruiting class.

"I've talked to Coach Reed, Coach O'Brien, Coach McCollum, Coach Willis and Coach Archer," he said. "Basically I've talked to the whole coaching staff. They're just telling me how much they'd like for me to join them.

"I've been to NC State probably four or five times now, but I'll probably go back for an official. I've been there for a camp, a junior day and the spring game. I really like the facilities and the environment. I don't have any favorites, though."

In addition to the schools that have offered, Smith is receiving interest from the coaches at Florida State and Auburn. He said he is interested in both programs but is already satisfied with the offers he does have.

"That doesn't really matter to me too much," he explained. "If they offer, they offer. I'm just trying to do what my team wants me to do. I like all the schools that have offered so I don't know where I'll be going right now.

“I haven't set up any official visits yet and I don't really know where I want to go. More than likely I'll take all five. I'll probably make my decision pretty soon. It should be sometime between the middle of the season and the end of the season."
