Pack Pursuing McCray

Each year coaching staffs across the country believe they have stumbled onto hidden talents that other schools have overlooked.

That seems to be the case with NC State and Norfolk (VA) Lake Taylor athlete Boogie McCray.

The 6-2, 210-pound prospect from Lake Taylor has a wealth of athletic ability and is showing that in the first half of his senior year. Lake Taylor is currently undefeated and McCray has been a big reason why. So far he has 759 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, and defensively he has recorded 22 tackles and eight sacks.

McCray told that he projects as a safety at the next level. His physicality and explosiveness could make him a difference-maker that simply flies in under the radar. Who has he been talking to these days?

"I've really just been talking to NC State," McCray said. "They've offered me. The last time I talked to them was this past week I think. I don't know what day. I've been talking to Coach Keith Willis. He just asks how we're doing in school and how we're doing on the field. We've got a good relationship. He's a cool dude."

McCray has already made one trip to NC State this season and he plans on making another before too long.

"I know I'm going down there for the Florida State game," he reported. "I went for the East Carolina game a few weeks ago. That was a lot of fun.

"They talked to us about how their school works and how to do well in the classroom. They talked a lot about their strength and conditioning coach, too, because that's big in college. Then we watched the game and went into the locker room afterward.

"I already know Jay Smith because he used to go to Lake Taylor. I talk to him every once in a while. His cousin is my cousin, so basically that's how I know him."

With his focus seemingly narrowed to NC State and with an offer from the Wolfpack, can we expect a decision from McCray in the near future?

"I don't know," he said. "I'm probably going to make my decision in a little while. I don't know when just yet though."
