Georgia DB Talks Favorites

Pack Pride has the latest on Marietta (GA) safety Chris Tanzy and his interest in NC State.

Chris Tanzy has flown somewhat under the radar for most of the recruiting process but he has quietly accumulated several scholarship offers and attracted more interest from schools as time has go on. So who are the leaders for the 6-0, 185 pound defensive back with roughly half of the 2008 season behind us?

Tanzy has run the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and does a lot for his Marietta, Georgia high school team. Marietta is 3-4 on the season with a couple of close losses. Tanzy has been lining up at quarterback and safety and has been playing well. He played quarterback for the varsity team a bit during his freshman year but then moved to wide receiver. Tanzy is now the full-time signal caller for Marietta although most colleges project him at defensive back at the college level, however.

Where does the recruiting process stand today?

"I haven't set up any official visits yet but I'm working on it," he said. "I think I'm going to visit Louisville, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee and North Carolina. I've been in contact with all of them but I need to call the coaches from Louisville and North Carolina back.

"I would say Louisville is my favorite but North Carolina has been moving up a lot. They're just behind them. After those two I would say Ole Miss, and behind them I would put North Carolina State."

Tanzy holds offers from Louisville, NC State and Middle Tennessee. The coaches from Ole Miss told him they would likely offer him a scholarship, and the coaches from North Carolina have been showing increased interest in recent weeks as well.

How much of a shot does the Wolfpack have with Tanzy?

"I definitely like them," he explained. “Me and my recruiter, Coach McCollum, have a good relationship. He actually graduated from the school I'm at now, so they definitely have that going for them."

Tanzy plans to take several official visits before making a final decision. He has listed playing time and atmosphere as the two of the main factors he’ll be considering when making those trips.
