Niceville, Florida defensive end Luke Sager has made changes in his list of favorites throughout the recruiting process but there have been a few constants in recent weeks. Now three schools have emerged as his favorites, with one in a particularly strong position.
Sager told PackPride.com recently that his three favorites are now South Florida, NC State and Iowa State, with South Florida holding a slight advantage over the other two. He was definitive in making this list, noting that those three are not only his favorites, but his finalists. He has narrowed it to those schools and will decide from that trio down the road.
A little over a week ago Sager took an official visit to Ames, Iowa for Iowa State's game against Nebraska. The Cyclones lost to the Cornhuskers, but Sager stated that he definitely enjoyed his trip.
"I had a lot of fun out there," he explained. "I got to see a lot of the school so that was good. With my top three now, I still want to check out the other two schools. I still have to check out NC State and South Florida again, but I definitely like it out there (at Iowa State).
"I want to try to visit those two schools during the season so I can make my decision as soon as possible. I've been out to South Florida for a camp and I like it down there. It's different compared to Iowa State because Ames is a lot smaller. That's a good thing about Iowa State, though.
"With NC State, I've just heard it's really nice. The coach just got there from Boston College not long ago and he's supposed to be really good. I think that's going to be a program on the rise, and I would probably have a chance to play early there."
The 6-4, 240 pound defensive end holds offers from all three schools in addition to schools like Mississippi State, East Carolina and some other mid-majors.
Sager projects as an academic qualifier and is rated the No. 150 defensive end in the nation by Scout.com. As a junior he tallied 45 tackles and eight sacks.
