Over the weekend, NC State extended a scholarship offer to one of the top juniors in the state, as Goldsboro (NC) Wayne Country Day standout Reco McCarter landed an offer from the Wolfpack.

"I got an offer from NC State on Saturday at the Red/White Game," said McCarter. "I was hoping they would offer me, and coach Sidney Lowe did. He was telling me that he thinks I could play anywhere in the ACC and they need more athletic guys like me.

"Coach Lowe said that they were offering me a scholarship and that whenever I was ready to commit to NC State all I needed to do wast give him a call and I could do it. He just said he needed a tall, athletic guy that can play on the wing, and he was saying I could be that guy."

What did McCarter think of the Wolfpack's Red/White Game?

"It was good," he said. "Guys were going at it. They basically went out and got up-and-down the floor like most ACC teams do. They were trying to run a lot."

McCarter mentioned that coach Lowe's experience in the NBA is one of the main positives for the Wolfpack.

"With State, they are the closest school to my house," he said. "I'm going to get down to a lot of their games with them being so close.

"I also like coach Lowe a lot. I think he's a good coach... he just doesn't have all his talent there yet. I dream of playing on the next level in the NBA, and he coached a long time in the NBA. He's been there so he knows what it takes to make it to the NBA, and that is a big plus for me."

A 6-foot-7, 180-pound southpaw, McCarter is long, athletic, and plays with passion. After a strong showing at Dave Telep's Carolina Challenge, McCarter suited up on the AAU circuit with the North Carolina Gaters and quickly established a reputation as one of the state's top 2010 prospects.

He now holds scholarship offers from NC State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech with Wake Forest, Miami, Virginia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin expressing interest.

"I don't have any leaders right now," said McCarter. "I like State, I like Wake Forest, Virginia, Miami... I like all the teams in the ACC.

"I'll probably get down to Clemson soon with my coach for a visit."

Does McCarter have a timetable for making a decision?

"I probably want to decide around January or February," he said. "I think I want to do it during my junior year."
