Sager Back From NC State

NC State and South Florida are dueling it out for Niceville (Fla) defensive end Luke Sager. Pack Pride has the latest on his official visit to Raleigh this past weekend.

Niceville (Fla) standout Luke Sager has put together a solid senior season albeit a shortened one due to injury. The 6-4, 240 pound defensive end is looking forward to the playoffs starting this week and feels he’s put together a pretty decent year thus far.

“We start the playoffs this week,” said Sager. “We’re 8-1 right now so we’re doing pretty good. I think I have eight sacks but I haven’t played the whole year because I hurt my ankle so I haven’t been totally healthy.”

The upcoming playoffs aren’t the only thing on Sager’s mind as recruiting took center stage this past weekend. The senior was in Raleigh for an official visit with NC State and had a chance to take in the Wolfpack’s thrilling 21-17 win over 24th ranked Wake Forest. This was Sager’s second official visit after a trip to Iowa State earlier in the year.

Sager talked about how his visit to State went.

“Some of the highlights were just being able to see the stadium, see the fans, hang out with some of the players and meet all the coaches and just see if I would be able to fit in if I decided to come there.

“They have the best facilities that I’ve ever seen. I was definitely impressed with all of the facilities that they have.”

So with NC State having such a need for defensive ends in the class of 2009, did the Wolfpack coaches push for a commitment this weekend?

“They didn’t really press the issue that much. They just want me to be happy where ever I go and wanted me to get a feel for the college.”

Sager admitted that he’s narrowed his favorites down to just NC State and South Florida. The Bulls have been his leader for quite some time. One of the advantages they boast is location. Will distance be a major factor in Sager’s decision?

“Distance doesn’t really hurt me going there and it won’t affect my decision at all.”

From here, Sager now plans to take another visit to South Florida and then make his decision.

“I have a visit set with South Florida in the middle of January. It just depends, if I commit to South Florida, I’ll be able to take it. If I commit to NC State then I won’t.

“I really want to go see South Florida on an unofficial visit on their game day because I just want to make sure I’m 100% with my decision and not rushing into anything.”
