Pahokee (FL) standout Jarvis Byrd has reached a decision. The talented cornerback verbally committed to NC State this afternoon.

"I committed to NC State earlier today," said Byrd. "Coach Archer was very excited... both him and coach Reed were very excited. They said they can't wait for me to get up there.

"They offered me about three weeks ago, and when I was talking to the coaches they made me feel at home. They said I'll have a great bond with all the players and I can play real early."

Byrd committed to NC State after considering offers from Southern Miss, Iowa State, Troy, FAU, Buffalo, and Western Michigan among others.

Checking in at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, he projects as a cover corner on the next level. As a senior, he's tallied nearly 40 tackles, 14 pass breakups and blocked three kicks to help lead Pahokee back to the state playoffs.

Pahokee High School is one of the top football programs in the state of Florida. Wake Forest standouts Demir Boldin and Alphonso Smith all hail from the school, as does Florida State tailback Antone Smith and Michigan wideout Martavious Odoms.

Pack Pride will have more from Byrd on his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
