With the Wolfpack's 41-10 victory over North Carolina, NC State improved to 4-0 this season against in-state opponents. It's the first time State has defeated Duke, UNC, ECU, and Wake Forest in the same season since 1986.
The margin of victory (31) of today's game was NC State's largest against North Carolina since a 40-6 win in 1989. NC State won by double digits for the fourth time in
the last five wins against the Tar Heels.
The victory gave NC State a 4-0 record against the in-state opponents on the schedule, including three straight wins over the Big Four rivals. It's the first time State has defeated Duke, UNC, ECU, and Wake Forest in the same season since 1986.
In NC State coach Tom O'Brien's two seasons as head coach, the Wolfpack is 6-1 against the other Division I-A schools in the state.
The margin of victory (31) was the most in an ACC game since NC State won at
Russell Wilson extended his school record streak (since 1970) of pass attempts without
an interception to 203. That mark is the longest active streak nationally and spans
Wilson's last seven games.
Wilson threw for a career-high 279 yards in the win.
Wilson has now accounted for 17 touchdowns (14 passing) with just one interception on the season. Duke's Thaddeus Lewis has he next best ratio in the ACC as he has accounted for 16 touchdowns (14 passing) with five interceptions.
NC State had season-highs in total yards (466), passing (279) and rushing (187).
The defense held UNC to 203 total yards, the lowest total since the Appalachian State
game to start the 2006 season. It was the lowest total allowed against a FBS school since
giving up 140 against East Carolina in 2004. It was also the fewest yards allowed to an
ACC team since the Florida State game (121) in 2004.
NC State's defense forced six turnovers in the game (three interceptions and three
fumbles) for the first time since the Eastern Kentucky game in 2005.
NC State has just two turnovers in the last six games (none today). That is the fewest
turnovers in a six game stretch in school history since 1959.
NC State scored on a 97-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown
pass from Russell Wilson to George Bryan. That was the longest drive since a 98-yard
effort last season at Boston College (a span of 21 games).
Bryan's touchdown catch was his fourth of the season, tied for the team lead.
Willie Young had a big day, notching two sacks, three total tackles-for-loss and his
second career interception – all in the first half.
